Hawaiian Superman: Capturing the Sun
Our Hawaiian Super Man Maui not only fished up the eight Hawaiian Islands, he also captured the sun and made it slow down its journey across the sky.
Long ago, the sun would race across the sky, there was never enough time in a day to get things done! One day, Maui heard his mother Hina crying because she would make her kapa cloth, and it would never have enough time to dry in the sun (kapa cloth is a bark cloth made from the paper mulberry or wauke tree). Maui decided he would slow the sun down, so he studied the sun and learned its route, and found it would come up the eastern side of Haleakalā (which means "house of the sun"!). He took with him strong cords and an adze, and his grandmother tells him how to capture the sun.
Maui hid behind a tree, and waited for the sun to appear, and as the sun began appearing, he lassoed each of the sun's legs. The sun realized what was happening and tried to escape back down the mountain, but Maui tied the cords around the tree he had been hiding near and demands the sun slow down so that his mother would be able to dry her kapa cloth. When the sun refused at first, Maui smacks the sun's legs with his adze until it agrees and promises to slow down.

Chiang Mai Thai Cuisine and Phuket Thai Express
If you ever get a hankering for Thai food, two great places to try are Phuket Thai Express and Chiang Mai Thai Cuisine. Phuket Thai is great if you just want something quick, easy, and super casual (also their spring rolls and Thai Fried Rice are a dream~~). Chiang Mai is great if you want to go for a slightly more upscale, nice Thai dinner (or lunch!). It's got a more "fine-dining" vibe than Phuket Thai, but still okay to be casual. Both are great! Phuket Thai Express is located on University Avenue, and Chiang Mai Thai Cuisine is located not too far from them in Moilili

Hawaiian Superman: Maui Reels in the Hawaiian Islands
Maui the Trickster is a Hawaiian demigod, sometimes he is called the Hawaiian Superman because of many stories of him doing incredible feats such as when he reeled in the Hawaiian Islands.
Legend goes that Maui's brothers would never let him go fishing with them because he would always bring bad luck and they would hardly catch anything. Fed up with always being left behind, Maui fashioned a magic fish hook, and begged his brothers to let him fish with them. His brothers relent, and they paddle out to sea and cast their lines. Suddenly, Maui's line catches what seems to be a very strong fish, and Maui tells his brothers to paddle, and they must not turn around. One brother's curiosity got the best of him and he turns around to see that Maui had not caught an abnormally large fish, but he's caught land! This causes the line to snap, but Maui had already pulled up the eight Hawaiian Islands!

Hāloa: Story of the first Hawaiian
In this story, Papa and Wakea (Earth Mother and Sky Father, respectively) have a daughter called Hoʻohōkūkalani. Hoʻohōkūkalani eventually gives birth to a boy, who is stillborn, and bears resemblance to a root. The family mourns, and the baby is wrapped in kapa (bark cloth from the paper mulberry tree), and placed in a lauhala basket before being buried in the earth. Hoʻohōkūkalani's tears water the grave, and the first kalo (taro) plant emerges, and it is named Hāloanakalaukapalili. Hoʻohōkūkalani again becomes pregnant. This time she gives birth to a healthy baby boy, whom they name Hāloa, after his older brother. Hāloa is considered the first Hawaiian person, and the kalo plant is regarded as a primary source of food.

Kumulipo - The Ancient Hawaiian Creation Story
The Kumulipo is an epic chant that describes the creation of the universe and connects the Ali'i, or royalty, to the gods. It is so long, it can take more than THREE HOURS to perform!
According to the legend, everything begins in pō (darkness or night), and where creation begins with a single coral polyp. Eventually there is the advent of ao (light or day), which leads to the birth of gods and man.
