Oli Kāhea: Permission to Enter

When entering a space that is not one's own, it is customary to ask permission to enter the space. This is done by reciting an oli or chant.
For example, a hula dancer will recite an oli in order to enter the halau, the forest to gather plants/greens, or to enter a heiau or other similar sacred place.

Information
'Ōlelo Hawai'i - The Vowels!

In 'Ōlelo Hawai'i, the vowels are pronounced differently than how we usually would in English. Similarly to languages such as Japanese or Spanish, in Hawaiian, the vowels are pronounced as: A - "ah", E - "eh", I - "ee", O - "oh", U - "ooh"; instead of "Ay", "Ee" "Ay" "Oh" "You". This means words like "lomi lomi" are pronounced as "low-mee low-mee" !
