'Ōlelo Hawai'i - The Vowels!
In 'Ōlelo Hawai'i, the vowels are pronounced differently than how we usually would in English. Similarly to languages such as Japanese or Spanish, in Hawaiian, the vowels are pronounced as: A - "ah", E - "eh", I - "ee", O - "oh", U - "ooh"; instead of "Ay", "Ee" "Ay" "Oh" "You". This means words like "lomi lomi" are pronounced as "low-mee low-mee" !
