L硯ahi

L硯ahi (or better known by its English name Diamond Head) is one of Hawai'i's most well-known landmarks. The name L硯ahi likely relates to how the mountain resembles the dorsal fin of a tuna (¡Æahi), and the name Diamond Head relates to the calcite crystals that were found on the beach by English sailors in the 19th century. If you love hiking and adventure, this is a great hike. Pro tip: This side of Oʻahu gets very dry and very hot, so start early in the day if you can, and don't forget your water and sunscreen!

Prince Kuhio Day is this Tuesday on March 26th! This state holiday is celebrated annually and marks the birth of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole. Born on the island of Kaua'i, Prince Kūhiō was often called Ke Ali¡Æi Maka¡Æāinana, or Prince of the People, and he was particularly well known for his efforts to preserve and strengthen the Hawaiian people.
