A Hawaiian Legend of Love for Valentine's Day :)

'Ohi'a Lehua is a red-blossomed tree known for its resilience as it is one of the first plants to emerge after a lava flow, making it also a symbol of the strength of love. According to the legend, the volcano goddess Pele met a man called 'Ohi'a and struck by his handsomeness, asked him to marry her. Having already pledged his love to Lehua, 'Ohi'a refused Madame Pele's advances, resulting in her turning him into twisted tree in her anger. Lehua, heartbroken, begged Pele to change him back, but Madame Pele refused! The gods heard Lehua's cries and took pity on her, transforming her into a lehua blossom so that 'Ohi'a and Lehua would be joined forever. They say if you pluck a Lehua flower from its tree, it will bring rain, symbolizing Lehua's tears of being separated from her beloved 'Ohi'a.
