Dwelling of the Gods: Kane-huna-moku

Kane-huna-moku, or "Hidden Land of Kane" is one of several sacred lands where Kane and his twin Kanaloa lived amongst other descendants of Kane. It is said to look like a floating cloud, and sometimes one can see it on the horizon at sunrise or sunset from Wailua, off the coast of Kaua'i. These are sacred lands, so when seen, one must never point at them!

Kane is a god of creation while also considered a god of atmospheric light and clouds, and Kanaloa is the god of the ocean with the ocean, ocean animals and underground fresh water as his domain.

The Makahiki is a time of peace that spans approximately 4 months starting around October, during the rainy season, and marks the beginning of a new year. During this time, people could rest and take part in games, and war was kapu, or forbidden.
